Masterson’s Tavern , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my recent visit at this establishment turned into one of the worst experiences of my life . While the bar may look welcoming at first glance , what I experienced behind its walls was disgraceful and unfit for any venue.

From the moment I crossed the threshold, it was immediately obvious that sanitation was not a priority at this bar . The surfaces were tacky , and a foul smell of old alcohol and neglected washrooms filled the entire bar . With a smell of a mixture of ammonia , old age and a sickly smell. The bar area , which should be the main attraction of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and litter that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The lavatory was in even worse condition — clogged , with a snapped lever and walls stained in what I can only assume was feces.
It wasn’t just a single bad experience either. Many patrons have reported observing cockroaches darting across the counter and proof of vermin in the storage spaces .
